Samuel Guibal

Bass-Baritone

He is currently coached by the renowned bass singer Luigi De Donato.

After studying violin and musicology at the conservatory and university in Montpellier, Samuel Guibal enrolled at the conservatories of Paris and Rueil-Malmaison, where he studied choral conducting with Patrice Baudry and Beatrice Warcollier, and classical vocal performance with Gisèle Fixe. In 2016, he joined the academy of the Orchestre de Paris Choir (directed by Lionel Sow).

In 2017, he was admitted to the Centre de Musique Baroque de Versailles, where he studied under Olivier Schneebeli and Viviane Durand. He has received instruction and guidance from Chantal Matthias, Eric Gervais, Maarten Köningsberger, Christine Schweitzer, Alain Buet, Claire Lefilliâtre, Damien Guillon, Yves Sotin, and Giuseppe Sabbatini. He also received training in theater, Baroque gesture, declamation, and historically informed French pronunciation from specialists such as Thierry Péteau and Deda Christina Colona, ​​as well as in Baroque dance with Gilles Poirier.

During his training at the CMBV from 2017 to 2020, he had the opportunity to performs regularly at various prestigious musical venues (Chapelle Royale and Opéra Royal de Versailles, Cité de la Musique, Philharmonie de Paris, Theater an der Wien, Opéra National de Caen, Sanssouci Palace in Potsdam, Orangerie de Sceaux, Radio France Auditorium) under the direction of renowned conductors such as Christophe Rousset, Paul McCreesh, Louis-Noël Bestion de Camboulas, and Edward Higginbottom. He performs French repertoire ranging from Claude Le Jeune to Gabriel Fauré, specializing in 17th- and 18th-century sacred music, “tragédie lyrique”, and “divertissement”.

Alongside his studies, he serves as the baritone soloist for the Saint Georges Consort and is frequently invited to perform as a soloist with the Ensemble Vocal Michel Piquemal, Ensemble Largentière, the Orchestre des Jeunes d’Île-de-France, and Consort Musica Vera. He also explores the medieval repertoire with the ensemble Magnus Liber. He performs the roles of Ben in G.C. Menotti’s “The Telephone” and Calchas in J. Offenbach’s “La Belle Hélène”, and appears as Cadmus in the revival of P. d’Orléans’s “Penthée”. In 2020, he records “grands motets” by P. Robert and H. Dumont as a soloist with Concerto Soave (conducted by J-M. Aymes) at the Chapelle Royale in Versailles, as well as Kerll’s “Requiem” with the ensemble Musica Vera (conducted by J-B. Nicolas).

In the spring of 2021, he joins the choir of Le Concert Spirituel under the direction of Hervé Niquet; he also performs as a soloist with the ensemble Spirito (conducted by Nicole Corti) and the Atelier Vocal En Cévennes (conducted by Juliette de Massy). His roles include Ebro and Caronte in S. Landi’s “La Morte d’Orfeo” (conducted by Stéphane Fuget), Melisso in Handel’s “Alcina”, and Zerbin in M. de La Barre’s “La Vénitienne” at the Opéra de Limoges.

In 2023, he performed the role of Furville in Grétry’s La Caravane du Caire at the Opéra Royal de Versailles under the direction of Hervé Niquet; the role of Virgilius in Mazzocchi’s Dido Furens with the ensemble La Nébuleuse, conducted by G. Rignol; Colline in Puccini’s La Bohème; and the role of Zuniga in Bizet’s Carmen with the Association Symphonique de Paris, conducted by R. Barillot. He also joined the Opéra Royal de Versailles Academy.

In 2024, he also performed the role of Aeneas in Purcell’s Dido and Aeneas at the Opéra Royal de Versailles, as well as the title role in Donizetti’s Don Pasquale. He joined the "Jeune Scène Lyrique" program with the company L’Arcal.

In 2025, he appears as the Doctor in La Traviata, joins the Pôle Lyrique d’Excellence under the direction of Cécile de Boever, and begins working with Luigi De Donato. In 2026, he will perform the role of Chalcas in La Belle Hélène and the Speaker in The Magic Flute.
